Australian Online Pokies: Goanna Gold, Kangaroo Zoo, Bush Telegraph, Mission: Impossible, and Cleo

Aussie themed slots are some of the most popular on the internet.

Check out these Australian online casino games which you can play for free or play for money.

There's Goanna Gold, Kangaroo Zoo, Bush Telegraph, Mission: Impossible, Cleo (aka Cleopatra) and more. Technically, Bush Telegraph is based on the South African wildlife (but it sure looks Australian), Mission: Impossible stars Hollywood actor Tom Cruise (who has a strong connection to Australia), and Cleopatra is loved by Australians, although it's an Egyptian themed slot game that rose to fame in casinos located along the Las Vegas strip.

Qld clubs pour nearly $2b into economy: study - 13th August 2009

A new study into the value of the state's community clubs has found they provide nearly $2 billion worth of sporting and recreational facilities to Queenslanders.

The report examined the social and economic contribution of the organisations over a 10-year period.

The study found not-for-profit organisations provide people with almost $1.9 billion worth of sporting and recreational facilities.

Tourism and Fair Trading Minister Peter Lawlor says the State Government could not afford to replicate the services the clubs offer.

"There's 27,000 people that are employed by the clubs of Queensland," Mr Lawlor said.

"They contribute almost $700,000 a year to the community.

"The community assets, they're assets that no Government could provide."

Clubs Queensland (CQ) says the report into their activities demonstrates their value to the community.

CQ chief executive officer Doug Flockhart says he hopes the review will help to counter the criticism some venues attract over gambling and alcohol abuse.

"We have to walk that fine line between an issue on one side and a huge benefit on the other and I've got to say, that as president of Clubs Queensland," he said.

"I'm still extremely proud of the balance and the contribution Queensland clubs are able to make to Queensland communities."

Runners limber up for City2Surf event - 9th August 2009

Up to 75,000 runners will be limbering up for Sydney's 39th City2Surf race this morning.

Heather Turland, who won the event in 1994 and 1996, is putting in a star appearance almost a decade after retiring from competitive running.

She will be joined by her 21-year-old son Cade.

Other high-calibre runners include Andrew Lloyd, winner of the City2Surf in 1983, 1984, 1986 and 1993.

Queenslander Michael Shelly, who finished just 13 seconds behind Martin Dent last year, is determined to crack the 2008 winner's 41:07 this time round.

While former world champion marathon man Robert de Castella will not be joining in, his humble brother-in-law Anthony Walsh, 49, will.

Describing himself as "not a particularly competitive runner", Mr Walsh, who lives in Melbourne, has no intention of emulating de Castella's 1981 City2Surf-winning time of 45.47.

"I'm expecting to do about 65 minutes," he said.

The Ambulance Service of NSW says runners should wear sensible clothing and footwear for the race, including a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen.

Dehydration can be avoided by drinking plenty of water.

Symptoms such as chest pain or severe shortness of breath should not be ignored – if they occur, entrants should stop and seek medical attention.

Anyone with influenza-like symptoms, including fever, chills, a sore throat or cough, should not enter the race.

The RTA advises runners to leave their cars at home. Roads will be closed in the Sydney CBD, Darlinghurst, Kings Cross, Edgecliff, Bellevue Hill, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Vaucluse and Bondi.

The Eastern Distributor northbound off-ramp to William Street and southbound off-ramp to Palmer Street will also be closed.

The Cross City Tunnel will be closed to eastbound traffic between Harbour Street and Bayswater Road, but will remain open to westbound motorists during the event.

Rachael Finch our best Miss Universe hope since Jennifer Hawkins

4th August 2009

Bookmakers have rated Miss Universe entrant Rachael Finch as Australia's best chance of winning the coveted title since Jen Hawkins did five years ago.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said the agency rated her third most likely to take out this year's title, behind finalists from Peurto Rico and the Dominican Republic.

“Being a brown eyed brunette is no disadvantage in a pageant that is usually taken by the likes of Puerto Rico and Venezuela,” Mr Sullivan said.

“Rachael has the look that often appeals to Miss Universe judges.

“Miss Universe is a very open field given there are beauties from all around the world but $12 is the shortest for an Australian since Jennifer Hawkins took the crown.”

Sportingbet odds, Miss Universe 2009

Puerto Rico $9.00

Dominican Republic $11.00

Australia $12.00
