The Australian Jockey Club has entered the drive-in cinema business. Plans to host drive-ins in the centre of Randwick racecourse from May through to August are being thrashed out in Randwick council. ''It is an exciting new revenue stream for the club which is strategically important,'' AJC acting chief executive Darren Pearce told the Herald. ''It is a different experience going to the drive-in rather than the cinema. We'd like families to experience the fun of the drive-in and we are hoping the council will support this new initiative for the community.'' A giant inflatable screen will be used on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings and sound will be broadcast to viewers' car radios. ''It is low impact on the community and low impact on the horses stabled at Randwick,'' Pearce said. (Credit: Fairfax Media)
