Australian Celebrities: Most loved and most hated...

TV programs, ad campaigns and brands are at the mercy by the faces fronting them and a new list has revealed just which celebrities Aussies love and hate.

Well respected media and entertainment monthly Encore Magazine has put more than 700 local stars to the test using a special numerical formula combining recognition and likeability.

The number one most popular local celeb? 'Our' Hugh Jackman.

In a massive victory, Wolverine crawled up the competition, scoring 426, compared with runners-up Rebecca Gibney (266), Michael Caton (264), Adam Hills (244) and Eric Bana (242).

Celebrity agent Mark Morrissey said the list proved that long-time familiar faces and nice guys always come out on top.

“If you look at the top people in that list, they're the sort of people that you would adore to have dinner with,” Morrissey said. “They’re the sort of people that you would be thrilled to meet, to find out a little more about.

“They’re people you aspire to and all of them are intelligent, open, honest people that represent all those values.”

Morrissey advised it was Jackman's family values that struck a chord with Aussies.

"He's a beautiful man and a fabulous family man,” he said. “His values speak for themselves. It’s also the choices of his films - everyone in the family can sit down together and enjoy them.”

The Media Man agencies Greg Tingle agreed with the sentiment. "Its well known that Hugh Jackman is a really nice bloke and his diverse body of talented work wins over a multitude of Australian. He's a genuine guy who has not let Hollywood go to his head and his wonderful humanitarian work also helps cement his place as most loved (and respected). The public are not as dumb as some brands and companies think and consumers vote with ratings, money and with popularity polls when the opportunity comes up. Hugh's Wolverine charater is the Marvel Entertainment franchise is such a loveable guy, as is the real guy beneath the claws".

As for the most hated celebrities, Kyle Sandilands nabbed the number one spot, ranking as being "hated" by 37 per cent of respondents, compared to 34 per cent for Matthew Newton (second), 28 per cent for Sam Newman (third) and 23 per cent for Ben Cousins (fourth).

Brynne Edelsten who ranked fifth was more of an anomaly to the controversial men, with 24 per cent expressing their serious distaste for her.

Morrissey said public faces like Sandilands, Alan Jones and Pauline Hanson - who all appeared in the bottom ten - were there because they traded on their unpopularity.

"The love to hate is intentional with a number of those,” he said. “That’s what they do, that’s what they sell, what they represent and it hasn’t hurt their careers, so they’re being true to their cause."

Encore’s managing editor Brooke Hemphill said the overall results demonstrated that popularity was not always about who appears the most in the media.

"It takes a level of trust, longevity and natural charisma to win over the public,” Hemphill said.

Rebecca Gibney, who ranked as the second most-liked of the celebrities said she was humbled and quite surprised by her positioning.

"I can only think it’s because I have been around for so long,” Gibney said. “I think I’m kind of comfy, like an ugg boot.

"Australians are very down to earth. They want to relate to someone who is also down to earth and accessible. People want to feel as if they could chat to you in the street and I always try and be open to that.”

The top 10 most liked celebrities as judged by the Australian public:

1. Hugh Jackman
2. Rebecca Gibney
3. Michael Caton
4. Adam Hills
5. Eric Bana
6. Magda Szubanski
7. Olivia Newton-John
8. Geoffrey Rush
9. Simon Baker
10. John Clarke

The most disliked personalities are:

1. Kyle Sandilands

3. Sam Newman

Genting takes stake in Australia's Echo, sparks takeover talk...

Singapore gaming operator Genting (GENS.SI) said on Friday it had taken a stake in Echo Entertainment (EGP.AX), raising the prospect of a battle for control over the $3 billion (1.93 billion pounds) Australian casino company with billionaire rival James Packer.

Packer, who wants to use Echo's licence to build a new casino complex in Sydney to attract more Asian high-rollers, has been agitating for change at Echo after building a 10 percent stake in the company, and on Friday succeeded in ousting the company's chairman.

Analysts speculated that Genting, Southeast Asia's largest gaming group, was preparing for an acquisition, having built up a war chest of S$3.9 billion, and said Echo's casinos were in cities where Genting had attempted to win licences in the past.

"At this juncture it does seems like a possibility... They have that war chest and will have to deploy it soon," said Loke Wei Wern, a CIMB Research analyst based in Kuala Lumpur.

A Genting spokeswoman declined to comment on whether the company was considering a takeover offer or to disclose its stake, but Genting said in a statement the total value of its investment in publicly quoted securities was S$298 million. The Australian newspaper said earlier that Genting had built up a 4.9 percent stake in Echo, which runs Sydney's Star casino and Jupiter's on the Gold Coast of Australia.

A full takeover would cost more than A$3 billion and both Packer and Genting would face tough regulatory scrutiny.

Echo said separately that its chairman, John Story, has resigned, bowing to a destabilising campaign run by Packer who owns a rival casino operator and wanted to sack the chairman.

"(John) Story going is more like a soap opera. The money in this saga is with Genting being on board," said Richard Colqhoun, a portfolio manager at Antares Capital, which owns shares in Echo.

Shares in Echo topped the gainers in a broadly weaker S&P/ASX 200 Index .AXJO, rising as much as 4 percent to value the company around $3 billion.

Genting Group, whose biggest assets are Malaysia's Genting Highlands casino complex and Singapore's S$6.6 billion Resorts World at Sentosa, also has stakes in Resorts World Manila and several UK casinos.

The group is headed by Lim Kok Thay, who is chairman and chief executive of Malaysia's Genting Bhd and executive chairman of Genting Singapore, and knows Australia well.

The Malaysian Genting Group was a founding shareholder in the Burswood casino in Perth, which is now owned by Packer's company.

A source familiar with the situation said the board of Echo had not had any discussions with Genting ahead of the news about its stake.

Packer, who has stakes in casinos in Australia, London and Macau, wants to boost his company Crown Ltd's (CWN.AX) 10 percent stake in Echo and win a board seat. Crown had put forward a resolution to remove Story at a July 20 shareholders meeting.

Packer has attracted several former politicians to help with his lobbying cause, including former Victorian state premier Jeff Kennett as Packer's nominee to the board of Echo.

Echo said in a statement on Friday that Story wanted the shareholders to vote on his position, but accepted the board's view that he should resign ahead of the meeting.

"The board of Echo has formed the view that the ongoing disruptive campaign concerning the resolution proposed to be put to an Extraordinary General Meeting of Echo for the removal of Mr Story was damaging to the company, and that it was in the best interests of shareholders that Mr Story not contest the resolution," Echo said.

Crown had argued that Echo was underperforming under Story's leadership.

Echo completed a costly A$870 million refurbishment of its Sydney Star casino last year but has not yet seen a substantial pick-up in revenues, according to analysts.

Crown owns casinos in Melbourne and in Perth, and about a third of Melco Crown Entertainment (6883.HK), which has casinos in Macau. It wants Echo's casino licences in Sydney and the Gold Coast because they are more likely to attract Asian high-rollers than Melbourne and Perth.

Echo's licences are "irreplaceable," said UBS analyst Sam Theodore, adding that Sydney and the Gold Coast would be especially attractive to international VIP players.

Perpetual Investments, Echo's second-largest shareholder after Crown, said it does not intend to support Crown's push for a board seat, according to the Australian Financial Review.

WWE RAW 1000th Episode To Be Massive; Aiming For Mega Rating And To Rocket WWE Into Future...

As the Media Man agency has been reporting WWE creative have been advised to treat the July 23rd (U.S date) 1,000th RAW as a major pay-per-view event. The majority of the writing team and officials’ time and effort at the moment is not so much focused on the WWE No Way Out pay-per-view on June 17th but the celebratory RAW that begins a permanent move to three hours.

Wrestling bible, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE creative are being pushed hard to come up with a huge angle that will dominate the summer, similar to how the Nexus and CM Punk angles caught on with fans in the past two years. Specifically they have been told to devise a "knock your socks off" type angle that will broaden interest to fans who haven’t watched WWE regularly for the past year.

Many fans are calling for Ric Flair to head up a new breed of Four Horseman clique, as well as a potential DX reunion. Internet chat indicates fans want to see "The Showoff" Dolph Ziggler get a major push, and be managed by "The Nature Boy" (if or when he returns to the WWE). Flair recently left TNA Wrestling under a cloud of controversy, not showing up for bookings.

WWE officials currently feel the current product is stagnant and are concerned about the poor ratings, as well they should be.

Media Man reports that tickets to the live WWE RAW world tour in Australia has been "fairly show", and is a reflection upon things getting stale, as well as longtime fans wanting more mega stars on the international supershow down under, such as The Rock and Brock Lesnar (both of which are not possible at this time). It's unknown if Flair could make the Australian tour, and even if he did, it would be in a non-wrestler capacity. Flair's star power alone would be enough to kick and chop some new life into the current WWE product, plus would offer a massive boost to merchandising.

The Observer's Dave Meltzer also reports that WWE Legends Gene Okerlund, Dusty Rhodes, Roddy Piper, Sgt. Slaughter, Gene Okerlund, Hacksaw Jim Duggan and Jimmy Hart are among those who have been contacted to date about returning for the 1000th episode of RAW. WWE are also looking are other former stars who they haven't used in a long time.

One name that has been mentioned is Bobby "The Brain" Heenan but that would depend on his health. Jesse "The Body" Ventura would also be a hit, even though he's most associated with the Hulk Hogan championship period of WWE, rather than the RAW brand. Unfortunately a number of former RAW legends have passed away such as Randy "Macho Man" Savage, Brian Pillman "The Loose Cannon", Yokozuna and "The Wolverine" Chris Benoit.

WWE are currently planning the an old school production feel to the show. As mentioned previously, The Undertaker is constantly being talked about regarding making a special one-off return appearance on the show in the hopes that it may significantly boost ratings and be the shot in the arm that the RAW brand so urgently needs.

WWE top brass (and rarely seen on screen talent, Vince McMahon and daughter, Stephanie McMahon), are also rumoured. Triple H, husband to Stephanie, almost a lock for the much anticipated show.

WWE are under huge pressure to deliver a strong rating in the three-hour RAW and if they don’t deliver, the switch to a permanent three hours may look like a failure before. To help prevent this from happening, the WWE are looking to follow the formula they use for pay-per-views, i.e. advertising in a three week TV build, announcing a pay-per-view quality line-up ahead of time and ensuring they have a solid card for match quality.

New talent is also likely to appear on the show however the names of who they are interested in introducing are currently unknown.

One thing is for sure - wrestling fans are buzzing about the upcoming 1000th RAW and Australia is buzzing, judging by the internet chat on sites such as the official WWE Facebook.

In the summer of 2011, Marvel successfully launched two new franchises with "Thor," starring Chris Hemsworth, and "Captain America: The First Avenger," starring Chris Evans. Both films opened #1 at the box office and have grossed over $800 million worldwide combined. In 2010 "Iron Man 2," starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson and Mickey Rourke, took the #1 spot in its first weekend with a domestic box office gross of $128.1 million.

In the summer of 2008, Marvel produced the summer blockbuster movies "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk." "Iron Man," in which Robert Downey Jr. originally dons the Super Hero's powerful armor and stars alongside co-stars Terrence Howard, Jeff Bridges and Gwyneth Paltrow, was released May 2, 2008, and was an immediate box office success. Garnering the number one position for two weeks in a row, the film brought in over $100 million in its opening weekend. On June 13, 2008, Marvel released "The Incredible Hulk," marking its second number one opener of that summer.

Lingerie Football League All-Star Games Tour; Sydney, Australia - 9th June 2012

Profiles

Events Sydney Lingerie Football League Games Sport

Tonight the American born Lingerie Football League enjoyed its virgin game on Australian soil.

All Phones Arena was blessed with the privilege of staging the first game in Australia.

What was on offer? - tits and ass of course, and a good spread of athletic talent. We really enjoyed the girls individual celebrations after they scored the all important touchdowns, made even more visually titillating with spray tan thanks to the sponsor - Mobile Spray Tanning.

If your into NRL you might be into this, and if your into pro wrestling aka sports entertainment, you will probably have a strong appreciation of this unusual, titillating and exciting sport that seems to be perfect for a good number of Australian alpha males.

Well done players and promoters for putting on a heck of a show. Looks like this special brand of footy has already developed more than just a grass roots fan base down under in Australia.

Promo...

The 2012 LFL All-Star Game will feature 32 of the most athletic and beautiful women across the league as the Western and Eastern Conference teams clash in front of projected capacity crowds in Sydney and Brisbane, two cities that the LFL has identified as being potential homes for two of the franchises in 2013. Expect these games to be as explosive, combative and competitive as all the LFL games are as each player strives to impress for selection into the teams in 2013.

LFL Football, described at the 'ultimate live sports experience', has developed one of its largest international fan bases in Australia having developed a cult-like following on Australian broadcaster Fuel TV since the league’s inception in 2009. As much success as the LFL has enjoyed in the US, internationally the appetite for LFL Football has been even greater being broadcast in nearly 43 countries and drawing near capacity crowds in previous international game play in Mexico and Canada. The appeal internationally has been strong enough for the LFL to announce the formation and kick-off of several international leagues to include LFL Canada (Fall 2012), LFL Australia (Summer 2013) and LFL Europa (2014).

Newsflash: Federal Minister for Sport Kate Lundy Is Not A Fan!...

Federal Minister for Sport Kate Lundy: "Stop the Lingerie Football League in Australia. Our daughters deserve more. The LFL is about giving viewers an opportunity to perve on women in gear that looks like it's come from an adult shop. It's called the Lingerie Football League because it's almost exclusively about the underwear."

Women of the match?

Chloe Butler and Liz Gorman seemed to get over pretty well with the Sydney fan base. Not bad looking for football players, and multi talented for certain.

Echo chairman bows to Packer pressure - 8th June 2012

Echo Entertainment chairman John Story has resigned from the board of the casino operator due to James Packer's efforts to remove him.

"The board of Echo has formed the view that the ongoing disruptive campaign ... for the removal of Mr Story was damaging to the company, and that it was in the best interests of shareholders that Mr Story not contest the resolution," Echo said in a statement today.

Mr Story wanted the issue to be put to shareholders but accepted the view of the board, Echo said.

Mr Packer is the largest stakeholder in Echo's rival casino operator Crown, which holds a 10 per cent stake in Echo.

Echo shares rallied on the news, rising as much as 4.7 per cent to $4.50, before easing back to $4.44 in recent trade. The shares are up about 24 per cent in 2012, mainly because of speculation that the billionaire wants a bigger stake.

Echo is worth about $3 billion, roughly half the size of Crown.

Crown shares, 48 per cent owned by Mr Packer, were recently down 15 cents, or 1.8 per cent for the day, at $8.21, and up just 1.7 per cent for the year.

Echo shareholders were due to meet in July to consider Mr Packer's request that Mr Story be removed from the Echo board, and that Jeff Kennett, the former Victorian premier, be appointed. A meeting may still go ahead to consider Mr Kennett's nomination.

Mr Packer’s move is aimed at giving Crown a piece of the lucrative Sydney casino market.

Echo owns the only casino licence in Sydney, and operates the Star. It also owns the Jupiters casinos on the Gold Coast and in Townsville, and the Treasury casino in Brisbane.

Crown operates the Crown casino in Melbourne and the Burswood casino in Perth.

Mr Packer also dropped his efforts to seek a meeting of Echo shareholders his plan to get former Victorian premier Jeff Kennett onto the board of rival casino operator Echo Entertainment.

Separately, Echo Entertainment's board has not had any discussions with Singapore gaming operator Genting, which revealed today it had built a stake in the company, a source with knowledge of the situation said.

THE AUSTRALIAN FINANCIAL REVIEW (www.afr.com)
--The possibility of John Story resigning as chairman of casino operator Echo Entertainment Group was discussed this week during investor meetings in a bid to negate a campaign by billionaire James Packer to have him removed. "The basis of the proposal was the concern that James Packer was threatening to do damage to Echo on an ongoing basis it wasn't a concern in relation to my chairmanship, it was about diffusing the situation," Mr Story said. Mr Packer's Crown Ltd, a rival casino operator, currently owns 10 percent of Echo. Page 23.

--A report by professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers has found that large resources companies are looking to spend their cashflow on growth, while their investors would prefer capital returned due to concerns over falling commodity prices and rising project outlays. "What has surprised is the disconnect versus the rest of the market to turn that around, it is going to take a realignment of expectations between the industry and investors," Jock O'Callaghan, mining leader and PwC, said. Page 25.

--Private equity firm Castle Harlan has been sued in the United States by an investment firm over what the latter alleges was a "quick-flip" sale of Norcast Wear Solutions to Australian foundry and engineering firm Bradken. Bradk en acquired the Canadian firm for A$217 million, after Castle Harlan purchased the business from Pala Investments for A$190 million only hours earlier. Pala lodged a case in the Federal Court against Bradken last month, claiming that the firm had participated in bid rigging. Page 25.

--James Warburton, chief executive of free-to-air broadcaster Ten Network, yesterday warned that there would be no short-term rebound in television advertising revenue. "We must be smarter [about programming costs] and we must drive our average hourly costs down," Mr Warburton said. The company yesterday announced a A$200 million capital raising, which would be used to pay down debt and cover the cost of new programming. Page 26.

THE AUSTRALIAN (www.theaustralian.news.com.au)

--Qantas Airways has dropped more than A$600 million in value this week after chief executive Alan Joyce announced a 91 percent drop in underlying pre-tax profit to between A$50 million and A$100 million. The unexpected announcement, which sparked a plunge in Qantas shares to A$1.125 yesterday from A$1.42 on Monday, has led some to question how much longer Mr Joyce will be leading the airline. Page 23.

--Margaret Jackson, former chairman of Qantas Airways, yesterday said that the airline's board decided to present to shareholders A$11 billion takeover bid for the company by the Airline Partners Australia consortium in late 2006 because "it was deemed to be a good offer". "The aviation industry at the time was going through an unusually favourable environment," Ms Jackson added. Qantas' current market capitalisation is approximately A$2.6 billion. Page 23.

--Bruce Gordon, James Packer, Lachlan Murdoch and Gina Rinehart have all banded together to inject A$84 million into a capital raising designed to ease the debt burden on Ten Network. The free-to-air broadcaster is looking to raise A$200 million to invest on programming and provide flexibility. "Given the uncertain revenue environment and our strategy of investing in programming renewal, the board felt it was important to strengthen our balance sheet at this time," Mr Murdoch, chairman of Ten, said. Page 23.

--Marius Kloppers, chief executive of BHP Billiton , yesterday rebuffed calls for the resources giant to return more capital to shareholders, with speculation mounting that the company will scrap its five-year capital expenditure goal of A$82 billion. "I have to tell you that my baseline demeanour against a volatile current backdrop is to be very conservative conservatism stood us in good stead in the global financial crisis and will stand us in good stead as we try to create long-term value in this current environment," Mr Kloppers said. --The former head of the Brown Brothers winery and current chairman of the Australia's First Families of Wine awareness group, Ross Brown, yesterday criticised major retailers for filling store shelves with copycat brands. In an address to a First Families event, Mr Brown reportedly declared that some retailers were acquiring surplus wine and putting a label on it to make it more alluring to customers. "I call them hollow logs they are just a label which has none of these values that traditional family wine companies bring to the market," he said. Page B1.

--Fund managers have expressed outrage after investment bank Macquarie Group recently announced it would more than double the yearly fees for distributing products on its investment platform. "You've basically got to pay up to stay on board ultimately what it means is I've got to pass it on - so the end user will suffer," said Winston Sammut, director of Maxim Asset Management, which has pulled its fund from Macquarie's platform. Page B3.

--Tony Haggarty, managing director of Whitehaven Coal, yesterday said the miner's Ferndale joint venture with Coalworks would not be impacted by an investigation by the Independent Corruption Against Commission into former New South Wales minister Ian Macdonald's granting of mining rights. "I don't see how [the inquiry] could affect the standing of the tenement that omelette would be extremely difficult to unscramble," Mr Haggarty said. Page B3.

--Fears over the ability of Reed Group to survive have increased as subcontractors who are owed money by the construction firm are being asked to join a class action against the New South Wales government. The news comes after the state Department of Education revealed that it did not owe anything to Reed for construction contracts relating to Building the Education Revolution projects. Page B3.

THE AGE (www.theage.com.au)

--Global miner BHP Billiton is preparing to drastically restructure its A$20 billion expansion of Port Hedland's outer harbour after yesterday announcing that it would prefer a staggered development of the Western Australian port due to the state's "pretty hot" economy. "We probably feel that dramatically upping your workforce requirements and so on, and your capital spend right now is not what we want to do, particularly because we are kind of fully committed over the next two years on our capital spend," chief executive Marius Kloppers said. Page B1.

--Broadcasters, mobile phone network operators, emergency services and other users of Australia's wireless spectrum have been asked to help update the methodology used for allocating spectrum. Oeter Haris, secretary of the Federal Department of Broadband, Communications and the Digital Economy, yesterday said that the renewing of Vodafone Hutchison Australia and Telstra's mobile licences earlier this year "was not - for all participants - very elegant". Page B2.

--The Star casino in Sydney has sued 10 high rollers, including a businessman with connections in Macau and a Thailand property developer, in the New South Wales Supreme Court in a bid to recover A$23 million. The legal action comes after Echo Entertainment Group, owner of The Star, last week wrote off almost A$30 million associated with the collapse of SilkStar Global Marketing, a casino marketing firm targeting high rollers. --Australian Securities Exchange-listed gold junior Indochine Mining has become an investment target for global investment fund BlackRock, which acquired 9 percent of the company for A$5.2 million, it was revealed yesterday. Star sues high rollers over debt - 7th June 2012

Profiles

Casinos Australian Casinos The Star Echo Entertainment Crown Limited Crown Casino Crown Melbourne High Rollers Casino Whales Gambling Fairfax Media World Casino Directory

The Star casino is suing 10 high rollers in an effort to recover $23 million in bad debts.

Court records show The Star filed claims against the 10 in the New South Wales Supreme Court in late February.

The individuals include a property developer from Thailand, an entrepreneurial Thai businesswoman, and a businessman with high level community interests from Macau.

Echo Entertainment revealed last week that it had written off nearly $30 million following the failure of VIP junket operator SilkStar Global Marketing and the high rollers' bad debts, which has given ammunition to James Packer in the war of attrition against Echo and its chairman, John Story.
As he continued a campaign of daily newspaper advertisements urging shareholders to dump Mr Story and elect Jeff Kennett as a director, Mr Packer yesterday referred to ''poor credit controls at The Star''.

''Echo wrote off $29.9 million associated with the liquidation of a marketing partner and bad debts - highlighting concerns about credit control at The Star,'' the advertisement said.

In its statement to the market last week, Echo said the operator, SilkStar, had gone into liquidation in March owing the casino $7 million. It also revealed some of the international VIP customers introduced to Echo by SilkStar had outstanding debts.

It said it had decided to increase the impairment provision against ''this group of customers'', which it said amounted to $22.9 million.

''Echo will however continue to vigorously pursue all avenues to recover the moneys outstanding from these customers,'' the company said.

Yesterday, an Echo spokesman declined to comment as the matter was before the courts.

Given the value casino operators put on ensuring the privacy of their high rollers, the public court action is a high profile foray into debt collection.

Echo recently went to court and succeeded in gagging the ABC from using information about high rollers' identities which it had obtained.

Echo closed at $4.27, down 3¢ on the previous day. (Fairfax Media)

Madame Tussauds Sydney, Australia: Captain Cook sails into Darling Harbour to track the Transit of Venus

Captain Cook sails into Darling Harbour to track the Transit of Venus...

Darling Harbour Events Fashion Celebrities Sydney Australia Captain Cook

Madame Tussauds Sydney enjoyed having Captain Cook get waxed at Sydney's Madame Tussauds in Darling Harbour early this morning.

Captain Cook is one of many Australian icons to be announced as attractions to appear in the museum, which will eventually feature more than 70 wax figures.

He joins a large contingent of Australian sportspeople, politicians and stars in the $14 million tourist attraction.

Merlin Entertainment Australia director Edward Fuller isn't revealing which other Australian stars have been selected for the local exhibition, but he has said extensive research has been done to ensure the right mix of the famous and infamous.

"The key thing is that there will be a really strong line-up of local stars," Mr Fuller said.
A team of artists is working furiously to have the sculptures ready in time for the opening. Each wax model requires about 20 artists, from sculptors to painters, and can take up to six months to complete.

"The hair is all individually inserted into the head," Mr Fuller said, adding that capturing the "character and atmosphere" of the subject was the artists' goal.

To assist in this, many of the celebrities immortalised by Madam Tussauds' artists donate their own clothes to help create a sense of authenticity.

"That's the icing on the cake," Mr Fuller said.

"Not only can you get up close and personal to your favourite star but they're actually wearing the clothes they might have turned up to the Oscars in."

The Transit of Venus – when the planet Venus transits across the face of the sun – is a very rare occurrence that Captain James Cook tracked from Tahiti in 1769, leading him to eventually map the whole East coast of Australia.

Since the phenomena was first recognized, there have only been six transits of Venus with the most recent one occurring in 2004 and the one following June 6th 2012 to occur on 11th December 2117.

WHAT: Relive the adventure with Captain James Cook who is returning to Sydney Harbour in a Red
Rocket for another viewing of the Transit of Venus, and the last for 105 years.

Media Man considering trade sale; open to advisors, director says

Media Man Greg Tingle Publicity Hitwise Internet Brands Advertising

Proprietary Intelligence

Media Man, the privately-held Australia media and publicity company, "is considering selling" within the next six months, said founder and director Greg Tingle. The company could be worth AUD 5m-plus [USD 4.7m] depending on the success of current deals being negotiated, Tingle added. He owns the company and would want to remain "proactively involved" in a management capacity if he decided to sell. He would also consider splitting the company's public relations and online advertising arms and selling one of the divisions off.

When asked why he was considering a sale, Tingle said, "I have been working extremely hard over the last seven years and want to relax a bit more." The company would be of interest to prospective buyers because of its "proven business model," attractive client list and "website traffic."

Interested buyers could include Australian-listed media group Consolidated Media Holdings [CMH], Tingle said. However, when contacted, a CMH spokesperson said the company was uninterested in acquiring Media Man.

Media Man employs The Tax Planning Professionals as its accountant, but was open to approaches from advisors with opportunities, Tingle said.

Media Man was founded seven years ago. It specialises in media services, public relations/events and online advertising. It is also involved with environmental projects such as Pittwater High School's Solar Power Station.

Media Man's clients include Virgin Games and Virgin Casino. The company was named as one of Hitwise's Top Ten websites in the entertainment/celebrity category in 2005 and 2007, and won a Virgin Casino online advertising award this year, Tingle said.

Chris Hemsworth Catches Self From Fame, Calls Hollywood Rise Amazing...

Chris Hemsworth is literally lording over cinema lobbies recently. His arresting larger-than-life posters and stand-ins are displayed as Thor in “Marvel’s The Avengers,” “The Cabin in the Woods” and forthcoming film “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

“[Fame is] absolutely [surreal] I catch myself and I think ‘oh my God.’ I’ve been in the business 11, 12 years and now I’m doing exactly what I dreamed of. It’s funny because when you are right in the eye of the storm you don’t realize it. Then suddenly you catch yourself and go ‘wow, this is amazing.’”

Hemsworth spends most of the awesome Hollywood time going through the motion without really realizing how huge his year has been since he starred in “Thor.” But he gets reminded of the feat through family.

“What’s most enjoyable is when my parents come and visit and I’m able to see it through their eyes. That’s so great. They are blown away every time they come to a set to visit. And it’s lovely going to premieres with them. We all just have a laugh about it.”

For the actor, it seems just yesterday when he came to LA from Australia and struggled to find acting gigs. But looking back now, “I’d had a good year of doing nothing and I was about to go home when these things started happening. I worked with Kenneth Branagh, Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman in ‘Thor.’ These are great professionals who I respect enormously and they are such a good bunch of people, too. Then I jumped into ‘The Avengers’ with another amazing cast and from that to ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’ It’s been incredible. Next I’ll be working with Ron Howard on ‘Rush.’”

A family man off-camera, Hemsworth’s family life is also in the upswing. Happily married to actress Elsa Pataky and a new father to a baby girl born May 14, Hemsworth is one rare example that some people can have it all.

“I am very excited (about fatherhood). As a kid, my parents travelled up to the Northern Territory and all over Australia. I look forward to doing that kind of thing with my family. So becoming a father is another exciting journey for me.”

Playing A Drunk Huntsman

The 28-year-old actor only gets to visit the dark side when filming. In “Snow White and the Huntsman,” the actor stars opposite Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron. “It’s certainly more the Grimm’s fairytale version of Snow White than the Disney version that we know from the cartoons. ‘Snow White and the Huntsman’ is epic in every way. The scale of the picture is huge. For example, we were shooting 150 people on horseback riding down the beach to storm the Queen’s castle, a fantastic scene we shot down in Wales. I’ve never seen anything this size. And the sets were incredible. They built castles and courtyards and villages one after another.”

He likened the production to the epic battle scenes of “Lord of the Rings” and “Gladiator.” “It’s a sort of on the scale of a ‘Lord of the Rings’ or ‘Gladiator’ film. What was great for me was Rupert Sanders’ (director) vision for the film and the fact that there are fully developed characters. There’s nothing black and white about it. Even the Queen has great motivation for doing what she is doing. She is not just evil for the sake of being evil. Snow White, too, has her own conflicts. The Huntsman, who I play, is a real lost soul and has sort of given up on the world and then sees a bit of light in Snow White. She sees it in him, too, and all of a sudden he is forced to re-think things and find who he really is. It’s a very redemptive story for my character. There are some beautiful character arcs.”

In “Huntsman,” the dwarves are played by Ray Winstone, Ian McShane and Bob Hoskins among others. “The dwarves are amazing. To work with those guys and actually to sit off set and listen to Ray Winstone, Ian McShane and Bob Hoskins chatting away to each other, telling stories, all their banter, was such a treat. What they add to the film is just brilliant. It’s one of my favourite things about the film,” said Hemsworth.

As the Huntsman, Hemsworth said he was “hired as a bit of a mercenary. He’s a drunk and he puts himself into situations where he doesn’t really care what’s going to happen. And he’s doesn’t have much of a choice about whether he will go and capture Snow White. He is kind of forced into it but at the same time he is offered something that The Queen promises. So he weighs his options and agrees to do it. By the time he meets Snow White and captures her, his conscience starts to play into it and he starts to see the light that Snow White has. He begins to question what he is doing.”

As far as Hollywood’s current obsession with fairy tales goes, Hemsworth said it has a lot to do with the stories being familiar to viewers. “I think it’s because fairy tales are familiar to people. These stories have survived so long so obviously there is something enjoyable about them. It can be tough sometimes to get people into the cinema so when you have a film of this scale, with all of the special effects, people want to see it on the big screen.”

Hugh Jackman tweets Wolverine sequel start date...

Uncross those adamantium claws because The Wolverine could go into production in Sydney as soon as August, according to a tweet from Hugh Jackman.

In a reply to a fan who tweeted him about when his Wolverine sequel would start filming, Jackman replied: "(it) starts shooting in August!!!"

The Aussie star, who is currently filming Les Miserables with Russell Crowe, will take a two month break before filming begins so he can bulk up his famous frame for The Wolverine.

The news was announced last month that the state and federal government had secured a deal with 20th Century Fox to have the film shoot locally, bringing some 2000 jobs to Sydney.

It was a welcome relief for fans of Jackman's portrayal of comic book hero Wolverine.

The sequel to X-Men spin-off X-Men Origins: Wolverine has experienced no shortage of trouble in its pre-production stages, with a 2011 start date in Japan having to be canceled after the tsunami.

Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky was attached to the project, before dropping out and being replaced by James Manogold (Walk The Line, Girl, Interrupted).

Jackman says he's looking forward to working with Manogold, who directed him on rom-com Kate and Leopold.

"He’ a great director and he’s very smart.

"I know he’s going to make an amazing film and this is the best script we’ve ever had.” (News Limited)

"Marvel's The Avengers" To Screen for Crew of International Space Station
After Conquering the World Box Office, the Record-breaking Super Hero Actioner Takes On Space 220 Miles Above Earth...

BURBANK, Calif., May 31, 2012 - Marvel Studios announced today that they arranged with NASA to transfer their record-breaking blockbuster film "Marvel's The Avengers" to NASA's Mission Control in Houston, which will uplink the film to the International Space Station (ISS), currently orbiting 220 miles above Earth. The film will then be screened for the space station crew's exclusive enjoyment.

This screening continues Marvel's collaboration with NASA, which began during principal photography of "Marvel's The Avengers" when the film shot at the Space Power Facility at NASA's Plum Brook Station in Sandusky, Ohio.

Louis D'Esposito, Marvel Studios' Co-President and Executive Producer of "Marvel's The Avengers," says, "The studio is privileged to share 'Marvel's The Avengers' with those up in space exploring the universe. A special thanks goes to NASA for utilizing their incredible technology to make this special screening miles above us in space happen. It is a screening that would make Tony Stark envious."

Films, books, and music offer important aspects of psychological support for astronauts on long-duration missions, such as those on the International Space Station (ISS). "These are the types of things that help to keep the crew connected to home, which is a huge morale boost while being away for long periods of time," said Dan Cook, Psychological Support Coordinator with Wyle, a contractor at NASA's Johnson Space Center. Aside from watching movies and television shows, ISS crewmembers have a number of options for their leisure and personal time, such as reading books or magazines, listening to music, and playing musical instruments.

The current space station mission is Expedition 31 and has a six-member crew consisting of 2 NASA Astronauts, 1 European Space Agency (ESA) Astronaut, and 3 Russian (RU) Cosmonauts as follows: Don Pettit (NASA), Joe Acaba (NASA), Andre Kuipers (ESA), Oleg Kononenko (RU), Gennady Padalka (RU), Sergei Revin (RU)
