Bally Technology, IGT Granted First Nevada Online Gaming Licenses - 25th June 2012

Casinos Casino Slots Poker Online Poker Las Vegas Nevada United States IGT

Regulated online poker in Nevada is closer to becoming a reality. This past Thursday, the Nevada Gaming Commission granted licenses to two gaming companies to provide systems for online poker partners.

The rival firms, Bally Technologies and International Game Technology (IGT), were both unanimously approved for online gaming licenses. They will not be the companies that will actually run the online poker rooms (in other words, they won’t be the new U.S. versions of Full Tilt Poker or PokerStars), but rather be the ones to supply the systems to whomever will actually run the websites. Thus, it is now a waiting game for Bally and IGT, as they cannot actually do anything until casino operators are licensed to offer online poker to Nevada residents.

Both Bally CEO Richard Haddrill and IGT Executive Vice President of Emerging Businesses Robert Melendres told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that they will be ready to go the moment a casino is approved. Melendres made sure to reiterate that his company will simply be providing the gaming systems, not actually operating the poker rooms, saying, “I want to make it abundantly clear, IGT has absolutely no intention to compete with our casino partners.”

The two companies have been known entities in Nevada for years, as they are the two leading slot machine manufacturers in the gaming industry. They have plenty of experience meeting Nevada gaming regulations.

The rivals also have online poker software that has been in use for years in Europe. In February, Bally purchased Chiligaming’s (Chili Poker) business-to-business platform, while IGT bought the Entraction network last year. Thus, IGT already has experience in the real money online poker world, while Bally has been operating a play money site for Golden Nugget. Both companies will use the technology already in place in European markets to prevent underage and problem gambling once sites are up and running in Nevada.

Bally Technologies was technically the first company to have its license approved, receiving the thumbs-up 45 minutes before IGT. In a press release, Richard Haddrill said, “We are grateful to the State of Nevada for this opportunity. We look forward to Bally expanding its leadership role in this exciting new arena of online gaming.”

Similarly, Patti Hart, IGT CEO said in a press release, “This is an exciting day for interactive wager-based gaming. We are honored to be granted the opportunity to support our customers as they further expand their operations to include online play in the State of Nevada.”

Also on Thursday, the Nevada Gaming Control Board registered Gaming Laboratories International and BMM International to test interactive gaming equipment for the state. This is significant because both have labs around the world and both have tested millions of gaming systems, including those owned by Bally and IGT. Thus, any required system testing by the state should go much faster than if everything was being done from scratch with new companies. “These systems that have been written about recently have already been tested by GLI,” Gaming Laboratories International CEO James Maida told the Review-Journal. “We don’t have to retest and do the same process all over again. Our next step is to certify the equipment based on the standards set by Nevada.” (Credit: Poker News Daily)

2012 WSOP, Preliminary Action: Final Ten Determined In PLO Hi/Lo, Unique Ante Only Event Draws Nice Field - 28th June 2012...

Amid the clamor around the Rio on Wednesday, the 2012 World Series of Poker had three tournaments that were in various stages of their play. The final table has been determined in one with a second getting close to that point, while a third event made its debut on the WSOP stage.

Event #47 – Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo – Day Two

Of the 978 players who began this tournament on Tuesday, only 141 were back yesterday with a shot at getting to the final table. After playing the WSOP mandated ten levels through Wednesday, the unofficial final table of ten was determined.

The first objective for the field would be to determine the 117 players who would take down their piece of the $1.32 million prize pool. That would take almost two hours of play and result in Steve Jelinek taking out Neil McFayden in 118th place, but the true story was in the survival of one player in his pursuit of a WSOP record.

Terrence Chan came into the event extremely low on chips and, after McFayden was knocked off, picked up his ninth cash of the 2012 WSOP when he was eliminated on the very next hand. The record for cashes in a WSOP is ten, which the late Nikolay Evdakov achieved in 2008 and, with a couple of weeks left in the 2012 WSOP, Chan has a chance to eclipse that.

After the money bubble popped, the halls of the Rio were awash with those eliminated from this event. Some of the notable names to take some green from Event #47 included Andy Frankenberger, David Bach, Joe Tehan, James Dempsey and Allen Kessler, all gone before the dinner break. Chip Jett, Adam Kornuth, Barry Greenstein, Dan Heimiller and Lee Watkinson would depart following some sustenance as the tournament worked late in the evening.

The lead for Event #47 wasn’t determined until the last hand of the night. All the chips got to the center between Charalampos Lappas and Viatcheslav Ortynskiy on a [6h]-[Qd]-[Td] flop, with Lappas holding an A-J-3-10 (gut shot straight and Jack high flush draw) against Ortynskiy’s A-K-8-A (pair of Aces, gut shot straight draw). A Jack on the turn would seemingly give Ortynskiy the hand, but another Jack on the river switched the fortunes to give Lappas the hand and the chip lead for today’s action.

1. Charalampos Lappas, 994K
2. Steven Loube, 947K
3. Roch Cousineau, 505K
4. Cameron McKinley, 477K
5. Timothy Finne, 455K
6. Sonu Sharma, 300K
7. Kyle Carlston, 277K
8. Paul Ewen, 234K
9. Paul Taylor, 180K
10. Viatcheslav Ortynskiy, 27K

Event #48 – $3000 Limit Hold’em – Day Two

Twenty players will come back to determine a champion in the $3000 Limit event on Thursday, looking at a long day of play to find out who will win.

126 players came back yesterday with dreams of a WSOP bracelet in their minds but, for many, it would be a day that gave them nothing. Only 27 players would even earn cash from this event, meaning 99 people left with a bitter taste in their mouths. Some of those players included Daniel Negreanu, Humberto Brenes and Jimmy Fricke, while Maria Ho, Jeff Shulman and David Steicke made the money after the bubble burst post-midnight.

Leading the way for today’s penultimate action will be Paul Berende, who holds an 89K chip lead over Kenny Hsiung. Chad Brown is in the Top Ten with 112K in chips (good for seventh), while former World Champion Jonathan Duhamel, John Myung, Dwyte Pilgrim and Justin Bonomo are arranged down the leaderboard. The eventual champion tonight will take the WSOP bracelet and $165,205 in cash.

Event #49 – $1500 Ante Only No Limit Hold’em – Day One

A new event took to the Brasilia Room, the Ante Only version of NLHE. As the name suggests, each player at the table would ante a specified amount, rather than the normal blind style of play. As it was new for most players, the 939 runner field was respectable for a new tournament.

The nuances of the tournament – a player could bet the lowest denomination chip in play to open the pot but, following that, no limit applied – led to some adventurous play around the Brasilia Room. Although there were some who picked up on the game quick, there were several who failed to make it out of Day One, including the Phil’s (Hellmuth and Ivey), David Williams, Vanessa Rousso and the creator of this particular poker variant, Bryan Slick.

Because of the fast paced action, the bubble did pop before the end of play on Wednesday (117 players) with the elimination of Morgan Machina. Six players would leave with a minimum payday of $2409, while the remaining 110 will be back on Thursday for more ante-only fun.

Sameer Al-Janedi will lead the field when play commences this afternoon, with Jon Turner, Chris DeMaci, Erick Lindgren and Mike McDonald in the Top Twenty. Other notables in the field – but with some work to do – include David Chicotsky, Dominik Nitsche, Max Pescatori and John Racener, who are in the money but in the bottom quarter of the field.

Whoever wins this inaugural ante-only event will take down $256,691 and the WSOP bracelet when the champion is determined tomorrow.

On today’s calendar is Day One of the $5000 No Limit Hold’em, Event #50 on the 2012 WSOP slate. It should be a tournament that draws a great crowd, mixing the skilled pros with the unknown players who have the skill and the bankroll to get into the tournament and will provide entertainment for all in attendance at the 2012 WSOP. “If it wasn’t for the Rock & Wrestling connection at that time being so big on TV — you know, they were all cheering [Hulk] Hogan and booing Piper — I don’t know if wrestling would have gotten the huge launching pad that it did,” Piper explained.

“It’s very surreal to think that you were apart of the beginnings of it but I was and I’m proud of it.”

Piper was also asked to address Raw’s 1000th episode which will be coming up, July 23rd.

“The fact that a wrestling program called Raw could be the longest running television show in the history of television, bar nobody — nobody can now say we’re not on the map,” stated Piper. “We’re for real. I have worked all my life to make that happen, along with a lot of other guys that have worked just as hard or harder.”

Kenn Doane Alleges John Cena Had An Affair With A Married WWE Diva...

Kenn Doane, who appeared as Kenny of the Spirit Squad and Kenny Dykstra for WWE from 2006 to 2008, blames an affair between John Cena and Mickie James for ruining his relationship with the former Diva and costing him his job. Speaking to on the ordeal, Doane reveals that Cena was having a second affair with a then-WWE Diva who was married to a man not involved with the professional wrestling industry.

Doane says he discovered James had been cheating on him with the Cenation leader when he caught her searching online rumors of her act of infidelity with the query "Mickie James dating John Cena."

"Upon confronting her about it, "She stared at [the computer] for like legit two minutes and I'm looking at her like "Did you forget how to read? Say something, WTF." She got up and ran into the other room crying saying she was sorry and she felt bad and admitted to it."

While recalling the matter, Doane says Cena was having an affair with a second WWE Diva.

"I don't have John's number so I call his diva 'road' girlfriend. I ask her if she knows anything about it and she says she had a feeling because John recently dumped her and she is over him now," Doane says.

Cena's sexual escapades were not solely limited to WWE Divas as he was simultaneously involved with 'ring rats'. Doane details, "Got one diva who is married to a guy outside of the business but she sleeps with Cena, then we got Cena who sleeps with rats (groupies, girls not in the biz, girls in the lobby waiting for an invite upstairs) and this married diva, and now my girlfriend."

Following weeks of inactivity stemming from the affair, Doane was transferred to the SmackDown brand on June 17, 2007, as part of the WWE Supplemental Draft. Doane reveals that the married Diva was transferred from Raw to SmackDown as well after being dumped by Cena.

"Following weeks I'm off TV and off the road until I get sent to SmackDown. Ironically, John's former Diva got sent too," Doane recalls. "So now we're on complete separate schedules and when there is a joint pay-per-view I'm off the road that day too and get flown in on a Monday for a Tuesday Smackdown. Yeah complete B.S. I get jobbed out then they take me off the road more and fire me."

Two WWE Divas transferred from Raw to SmackDown in the 2007 WWE Supplemental Draft—and the entire year—Torrie Wilson and Victoria. Wilson was in the process of divorcing Billy Kidman. Victoria has been married to a man not affiliated with the professional wrestling industry since 1998, matching Doane's claim.

On November 10, 2008, WWE announced Doane had been released from his contract. While discussing his termination with John Laurinaitis, he was informed that his decision to speak publicly on Cena and James' affair will determine whether WWE offers him employment again in the future.

"When Johnny Ace called me to fire me I asked him if this is why I'm getting fired," Doane recalls. "He told me we don't have anything for you and depending on whether you choose to discuss this issue will determine on if your allowed to come back in the future."

Doane ultimately concludes that he wants to be open and honest.

"Going forward I have no reason but to speak the truth and to make all this up would be absolutely insane. I'm not saying you have to believe anything I say but that is the truth," he says. "WWE portrays Cena as this big hero and savior to all of us but truth be told that is a character he plays much like me as a cheerleader. When watching wrestling, know you're watching a show and not real life situations or scenarios. We are basically live comic books brought to life and make short action movies for you to enjoy." Former AFL star Ben Cousins guilty plea...

Former AFL star Ben Cousins has been fined a total of $800 for drug possession.

The 33-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges after one of the charges was downgraded from intent to sell or supply methamphetamine to simple possession.

Cousins was fined $500 plus $66 costs for possession of 4.56 grams methamphetamine.

He was also fined $150 each for possession of one gram of cannabis and a smoking implement.

Perth Magistrate Steven Heath took into account Cousins' early guilty plea and the fact he had no prior drug convictions.

This was despite the Brownlow medallist's very public battle with drug addiction over the years.

Cousins' lawyer, Michael Tudori, said the former West Coast Eagles premiership-winning captain had made 'a huge error in his judgment' and was 'remorseful and regretful' for his actions.

He said his client wanted to apologise to the court, the public and Teen Challenge, the drug rehabilitation clinic in the south coastal town of Esperance where he was arrested at the airport with 4.56g of methamphetamine on March 27.

News Corp Expected To Announce Split Plans On Thursday...

The News Corp board will meet tomorrow to discuss the plan to separate its TV and film operations from the print ones, with advice from Goldman Sachs and Blair Effron of Centerview Partners. Assuming there’s no last-minute hitch, the arrangement will be made public on Thursday. Then the waiting game begins; it could take as long as a year for the split to actually take place. The thinking is that News Corp investors would receive shares in a new entity housing the publishing and education assets including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Post, and book publisher Harper Collins. Rupert Murdoch would continue to control about 40% of the votes at both companies and serve on each board as chairman. Decisions regarding management have yet to be firmed up, but I hear that Murdoch likely would remain CEO of entertainment-focused News Corp while someone else would run day-to-day affairs at the print company. Possibilities for that job include Dow Jones Managing Editor Robert Thompson, Dow Jones CEO Lex Fenwick, and News International CEO Tom Mockridge.

Investors blessed the deal Monday, sending News Corp shares up 8.3% to $21.76. Fitch Ratings, a debt analysis firm, said that the split would “have no impact” on the company’s ‘BBB+’ rating with a Stable Outlook. Other analysts also applauded. Lazard Capital Markets’ Barton Crockett said that the two entities would have a combined value of $26 a share, up $2 from his current price target for News Corp. Nomura Equity Research’s Michael Nathanson says the two stocks would be worth “at least” $24, up from his present $23 target. But Bernstein Research’s Todd Juenger stuck with his $22 target. Half of News Corp’s value comes from its cable networks and “Even in optimistic scenarios, which we question due to audience erosion at (Fox News Channel) and cost pressures at FX, this segment alone is not enough to power the stock to attractive upside.” (

E3 download: Six gaming trends to expect over next six months...

It’s game over for this year’s E3 but what’s the final score?

We put the question to Yves Guillemot, the chief executive of Ubisoft Entertainment, a French company he co-founded in 1986 and guided to its current ranking as the world’s third-largest game publisher (after Activision-Blizzard and Electronic Arts) with franchises such as “Assassin’s Creed,” “Rayman Raving Rabbids,” and “Splinter Cell.”

From his perch in Montreuil-sous-Bois, an eastern suburb of Paris, Guillemot has built a reputation as an astute trend-spotter who was nimble in capitalizing on the Wii and DS craze then heard a hit in the dance-game craze and delivered “Just Dance,” a franchise that has sold more than 28 million copies.

Here are six major trends that will affect the games players will see in the coming months.

1) THE SECOND SCREEN: “Video games played on home television sets will increasingly incorporate another mobile screen,” Guillemot said.

Nintendo’s Wii U console, scheduled to launch later this year, will have a tablet controller toward the end of this year. The 6.2-inch touch screen will be used to display game information that’s not on the big TV screen.

A good example is Ubisoft’s “Zombiu,” which uses the Wii U GamePad touch screen as a way for players to access their inventory and pick locks or to use as a motion detector or minimap. A reviewer from Kotaku went so far as to say, “It’s the game that made me finally see the potential of the Wii U’s special second screen.”

Microsoft, with its SmartGlass software, will make use of existing touch screen devices, including iPads and smartphones. Users who download an application on the devices can turn their tablets or cellphones into a game controller or a screen that can display “companion content” for other forms of entertainment. Think team stats during a live sports game, or actor bios during a movie.

Sony has similar plans for its PlayStation Vita handheld game console.

2) NON-STOP GAMING: “The game doesn’t stop,” Guillemot said. “You’ll be able to pick up the game continuously, anytime and on multiple devices.”

Game developers are creating game “experiences” that let players check into their game from their cellphones, tablets, Web browsers or consoles. Players can configure their teams on a tablet, buy new uniforms on a cellphone and play a match on a console or computer. Progress in the game is saved in the “cloud,” so players can pick up where they left off, regardless of which device they last used.

3) SOCIAL GAMING: It’s not just for Facebook anymore. Game developers and console companies are building plenty of social hooks into their products, Guillemot said. Nintendo on Sunday announced Miiverse, a social network for players of its Wii U console. The Sims City, coming out in February 2013, will let players affect the outcome of neighboring cities operated by friends. Cultivating a crime-ridden, smog-filled city, for example, will boost the crime and pollution in their friends’ cities. The franchise, which had always been single player, will let players form alliances and trade resources – much like real cities.

4) ASYNCHRONOUS MULTIPLAYER GAMING: Having a social experience is great. But not everyone has the luxury of being able to play together at the same time – so-called “appointment gaming,” where guilds get together at a specific time, for example, to stage a raid.

So developers are cooking up ways to get players to interact without having to pick up their controllers at the same time, Guillemot said. A player can leave messages or a challenge for another gamer to pick up when they log in. Or, to complete quests, they can send help requests that friends can respond to at a later time.

This is a common staple in Facebook games, where players check in for a few minutes at a time, often not at the same time. Now, that feature will be increasingly built into other types of games, Guillemot said.

5) COMPANION GAMING: No, that doesn’t mean a “Women of Warcraft” dating site. It’s a term that was thrown around in great profusion at E3 this year and it refers to developers creating “side content” for major franchises.

One example is “Ghost Recon: Commander,” a social game released on Facebook at the same time Ubisoft released ”Ghost Recon: Future Soldier.” Progress in the Facebook game helped players unlock new weapons in the main console game, for example.

Developers can also explore separate story lines, say of a minor character, in mobile versions. Or configure a football team on an iPad app that they can later use to play in the console game. The idea is to have players engage in the game wherever they happen to be.

“We want you to be able to play on any screen that’s nearest to you,” Guillemot said.

Of course, the “companion content” has to be appropriate for the device, he cautioned. It may not be ideal, for example, to be playing a full-featured console game on a cellphone.

6) FREE GAMES: Game publishers are increasingly enamored with so-called “freemium games” that give players a limited version of the game for free, but charge for extras.

For players, that can be both good and bad. The nice thing is that people can get a taste of a game before they decide to spend money on it. How many times have you paid $60 for a game, 0nly to discover that you hate it once you’ve had a chance to play it for 15 minutes?

The downside, of course, is that players can wind up spending a lot more than $60 over time — paying 99 cents for a power-up here, $2 for a weapon there, and so on. For some, the price tag can add up to hundreds of dollars. This is why Nintendo has refused to pursue this model, referring to it as a “gotcha” scheme for players.

That said, if players can exercise some self-restraint in clicking the in-game “buy” button, the good news is that there will be more choices available to players than ever before. (L.A Times)

Telstra accused of tracking Next G internet use...

Telstra has been accused of tracking the internet use of its Next G mobile phone users and sending their internet history to a company in the United States.

One of the telco's customers discovered that when he visited a website using his Next G network in Australia, a server in the United States would visit the same address almost instantly.

Telstra says it is collecting the information for use in a new internet filter product, but internet users are outraged and are demanding the Australian Privacy Commissioner investigate.

The tracking was confirmed by Mark Newton, who up until late last year was one of the longest serving technical engineers at Australian internet company Internode.

When he saw rumours on a network administrator email list that Telstra was sending the URLs from Next G internet use to a company overseas, he set up a test.

"In real time, information about the URL that I was visiting was being sent offshore so that that offshore data centre could then make that second request," he said.

"It means if you go to on your Next G internet connection, both Telstra and the US company knows about it."

Mr Newton says he had no idea such information was going offshore.

"Australians should know when their private data is collected, what that data is going to be used for and who it is going to be disclosed to," he said.

He says he has emailed Telstra, asking why it is sending internet address data to a third party.

"Privacy protections in the United States are very, very minimal. There are almost no controls at all on what an American company can do with private data that’s been gathered from consumers," he said.

Privacy concerns

Users on the Australian broadband forum Whirlpool also want to know why the information is being sent, who it is being sent to, and why they were not told about it.

No one at Telstra was available for an interview, but in a statement the company admitted it was sending data overseas.

Telstra said it was building a database for one of its new products which will allow parents to block their children from accessing certain websites.

It is working with US company Netsweeper, which is building the database for the filter.

Telstra says the product will be "opt in", but Mr Newton says its current data collection strategy is not.

"It's being collected and then sent to the US company without anyone being told about it. And I have a problem with that. And I think anyone who has concerns about privacy should also," he said.

Western Australian Greens Senator Scott Ludlam says he has asked Telstra to provide more details.

"Any item that's out there on the web has to have its unique address or it can't be found. And I don't want to overstate or overplay this because at the moment it's just really quite ambiguous as to what’s even occurring," he said.

"But, potentially, profiles can be built of people out of the places that they go and the things that they look at online, or the people that they're in contact with. These things are possible. These are live debates." (ABC News)

Jobs purge at The Star casino...

The Star casino has shed up to 100 key management staff in the wake of the Sid Vaikunta scandal as it desperately seeks to rebuild its tattered reputation -- and there are threats of more to come.

Rocked by a string of lurid allegations, Echo Entertainment Group, which runs the casino, has shown at least 70 management staff the door in Sydney, along with a number of staff who perform various strategic roles across the gambling group also being made redundant. Former chief financial officer Murray McCall is the biggest head to roll in the mammoth shake-up.

Friends of Mr McCall, who was poached by The Star from New Zealand casino group SkyCity in 2009, said he was stunned by the decision, especially considering he took the reins of the casino as acting managing director following Mr Vaikunta's dismissal.

Mr Vaikunta was sacked on February 2 after allegations of sexual harassment made against him by two staff members. He denies the allegations.

It is understood The Star has reported Mr McCall's departure to the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority.

Tough rules governing the casino's licence mean the authority must be notified within two weeks if a "special employee" has their position terminated. "Since the departure of the former Managing Director (Mr Vaikunta), there is no suggestion The Star has not been fully compliant with notification requirements in relation to special employees ceasing to have functions," an ILGA spokesman said.

Other staff who have been let go include event manager Alexandra Bull, who had been with the casino since 1997, and events and tournaments manager, Darka de Vries.

Casino insiders have been told the cull, which began with six senior staff removed on the day the failed musical An Officer and a Gentleman premiered in May, has not finished.

One source said the redundancies have been carried out across the board: "No one is safe; whether you are in gaming or marketing, your head is on the chopping block."

The purge comes after months of bad publicity and declining profits at The Star. The casino has issued two profit warnings this month. Turnover for 2012 is expected to be as low as $270 million, down from $347 million in 2011.

Government relations manager Brad Schmitt, who confirmed the bloodletting, said the redundancies were part of a plan to streamline the business by removing the duplication of roles caused by the company's demerger from Tabcorp. He maintained the

redundancies were planned long before the profit warnings with "numbers built up for the relaunch of The Star and busy Christmas period".

He also denied suggestions his position was at risk as The Star looked to mend its fractured relationship with the Premier, Barry O'Farrell, telling The Sunday Telegraph he had just received a pay rise.

Mr O'Farrell's former chief advisor, Peter Grimshaw, was accused of running a personal vendetta against The Star. (The Daily Telegraph)

Russell Crowe to play Rupert Murdoch in film...

Russell Crowe is reportedly in line to play Rupert Murdoch in a film.

The 'Gladiator' star is tipped to take on the role of the media mogul in a movie based on 'Good Times, Bad Times', the memoirs of former Sunday Times editor Sir Harold Evans.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: ''You have to be brave to play someone like Murdoch. Russell can do it.''

Colin Firth is believed to be up for the role as Harold, but no deals are yet in place.

Leon Lecash, creative director of what's it all about?, which is making the movie said: ''The film will be a drama, either for the big screen or television. It is very early days as the option deal with Harry was only just completed.

''No actors or even writers have been signed up yet.''

The film will focus on then-Prime Minister Lady Margaret Thatcher's dealings with the Australian tycoon.

Evidence is said to suggest she manipulated rules to facilitate the deal for Murdoch to buy The Times newspaper in 1981 in return for favourable publicity for her party.

Leon added to the Evening Standard newspaper: ''Murdoch went to Chequers to talk about the deal, which was never brought to the attention of the Monopolies Commission.

''Harry had suspicions that some intimate contacts were taking place between Murdoch and Thatcher, with late-night whisky drinking in Downing Street when Murdoch was let in by the back door. This type of stuff came to light recently when Sir Bernard Ingham's notes were released under the 30-year rule. Much of what Harry wrote about Murdoch when they fell out in 1983 is so prescient he has said he didn't know whether to laugh or cry.''

Casino Hires Robert De Niro as Celebrity Flack...

You talkin' to me?

A casino in South Korea hopes you'll be listening!

The Paradise Walker-Hill Casino in Seoul, South Korea, has announced that it has hired actor Robert De Niro to serve as a paid celebrity spokesman for the casino.

The casino, which is South Korea's oldest and is open to foreigners only--meaning no South Koreans are allowed in--is located in the Sheraton Walker-Hill Hotel, a luxury hotel in Seoul that is popular with tourists and foreign business people.

Large ads featuring De Niro plugging the casino have already begun appearing at Seoul's airport and other locations frequented by tourists.

In addition, the casino announced, television commercials with De Niro promoting the casino were filmed in New York City last month.

The TV spots will not air in the USA.

One of De Niro's most famous movie roles was in the film "Casino," in which he played Ace Rothstein, a character based on real-life mob associate and Stardust Casino executive Frank "Lefty" Rosenthal.

De Niro, like many other American celebrities, does not appear in any commercials or ads in the USA, but does appear in foreign advertising.

Several celebs in recent years, however, have flacked for casinos that advertised in the USA.

Among them are singer Kenny Rogers, whose hit song "The Gambler" permanently linked him to the pastime in the eyes of the American public.

For years, he has shilled for the Barona Casino, an Indian casino near San Diego.

And former professional wrestler and Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura served as a celebrity spokesman for Bet U.S., an online sportsbook and casino based in Costa Rica.

In addition, baseball Hall of Famer Reggie Jackson once briefly served as a paid celeb shill for an online casino, until Major League Baseball told him to nix the deal or be banned from baseball. (

Florence Henderson Brady Bunch star at Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia - 25th June 2012

Florence Henderson from Brady Bunch fame in Sydney for book promotion...

Movies Hollywood Music Celebrities Television Entertainment Sydney Australia

Florence just loves her cook books, as well as tomatoes, and her family has a long and succesful history in the tomato growing business we learned while chatting with the famous actor at King's Cross - Darlinghurst based 'Concrete Blonde' Restaurant.

She has taken quite a liking to NSW, Australia, which also compliments her existing and upcoming media and promotional campaigns.

Be sure to look out for her fabulous cookbooks (as well as 'The Brady Bunch' reruns on Foxtel).

Good night all.

Mrs Brady heads Down Under for her love of tomatoes...

Pop culture icon Florence Henderson, AKA Mrs Brady from classic hit TV series ‘The Brady Bunch’, is heading Down Under. Florence will visit Sydney from 25 June to 28 June to share her short-cut kitchen tips. Besides wearing the title of ‘America’s Favourite Mom’, Florence hosted a cooking variety show that saw her working with some of the world’s best chefs and has two cookbooks to her name.

Florence is coming to Australia thanks to the newly launched Ardmona Duo, a flavoursome mix of vine ripened Australian tomatoes and tomato paste in one easy to open can; the perfect short cut for cooks who want fabulous food on the table, quick smart.

Florence is the youngest of ten children as well as having four children of her own. “I’m not a professional cook, just someone who loves good food. I especially love tomatoes and their versatility. When I heard Ardmona was launching the Duo range where delicious vine ripened Australian tomatoes are combined with tomato paste, I thought, ‘what a great short cut creation’. One of my cook books was actually called Short Cut Cooking,” said Ms Henderson.

To coincide with Florence’s visit to Australia and the launch of Ardmona Duo, a Facebook App will be launched where Australians can sift through a plethora of essential timesaving short cut cooking tips. The Ardmona Book of Better Ways contains helpful tips such as how to stop rice from sticking, how to slice mushrooms quickly and evenly, how to effortlessly grate cheese with less mess, how to boil eggs without them cracking and how to easily open jars with pesky lids.

“When it comes to food, I’m a big believer in supporting local industry. Why buy imported products if what you’re growing locally is actually superior tasting? “I’ve tasted the Australian grown Ardmona tomatoes and compared them to Italian canned tomatoes and found the Ardmona product to be full of flavour. There is definitely something to be said about the sunshine vine ripened tomatoes of Down Under; they really know how to pack a flavoursome punch!”

Ardmona canned tomatoes are sourced from Victoria’s ‘fruit bowl’, the Goulburn Valley and Southern NSW. Ardmona exclusively uses tomatoes grown and manufactured in Australia. Ardmona tomatoes aren’t picked green and later ripened before being canned. These tomatoes are vine ripened and picked at their peak maturity to ensure the succulent tomato flavours are captured. Within 24 hours of harvesting, the tomatoes are cooked and sealed to preserve the true vine ripened rick flavour.

Ardmona Duo with the added richness of paste comes in straight finely chopped tomatoes with paste or;

• Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Paste and Basil & Garlic
• Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Paste and Herbs
• Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Paste and Roasted Capsicum
• Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Paste and Onion & Garlic
• Finely Chopped Tomatoes with Paste and Bolognese

Ardmona has been part of Aussie meals for generations... 90 years to be exact. From its beginnings as the Ardmona Fruits Products Cooperative Company Limited established in 1921, Ardmona has grown to deliver a range of trusted products, and is today the leading brand in the Canned Tomatoes category.

WWE RAW Ratings And News...

The June 18th WWE RAW Supershow scored a 3.40 cable rating with 4.97 million viewers. This is the best rating RAW has done since the day after WrestleMania 27.

In the segment breakdown, CM Punk and Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan and Kane lost 241,000 viewers from the opener that started strong. Dolph Ziggler vs. Jack Swagger lost 22,000 more viewers. The segment with Paul Heyman and Triple H gained 559,000 more viewers for a show-high 3.74 quarter rating.

Santino Marella vs. Alberto Del Rio lost 711,000 viewers. The segment with Heath Slater, Wendi Richter, Cyndi Lauper and Roddy Piper lost 12,000 more viewers. John Cena vs. David Otunga and John Laurinaitis in the main event gained 573,000 viewers to a 3.74 quarter rating.

WWE Bring it Back!: The Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection...

In the `80s, the Rock 'n' Wrestling Connection (R.W.C.) – an alliance between MTV’s wild, pop star Cyndi Lauper and the outrageous Superstars of WWE – propelled the squared circle into the upper stratosphere of pop-culture phenomenon. has been chomping at the bit to see the second coming of this movement ever since.

During the R.W.C. era, WWE Superstars appeared in numerous MTV videos, created two music albums of their own and even lent their personalities to an animated television series Hulk Hogan’s Rock 'n' Wresting. The impact of this unlikely partnership served as a catalyst to intense WWE ring rivalries and helped hurl the WWE Universe into mainstream popularity – adding to the media invasion that culminated with the very first WrestleMania from Madison Square Garden.

Who wouldn’t see the entertainment value in it happening all over again? Just picture the anarchy that would ensue from asking Superstars like WWE Champion CM Punk, Kane, Daniel Bryan and AJ to come together in song – in the style of the `80s "Land of a Thousand Dances."
Who wouldn’t want to see Maroon 5 square-off with Gym Class Heroes in a No Holds Barred Celebrity Music Match to become the first-ever Rock 'n' Wrestling Celebrity Champions? We’re talking more guitar assaults than the classic days of The Honky Tonk Man.

Perhaps the leader of the Cenation might even take a page from another WWE icon, once again embracing his freestyle roots for a new animated series: John Cena’s Rap 'n' Wrestling.

The benefits would be, by no means, one-sided. Although MTV has greatly evolved since the days of the R.W.C., it is long overdue for a dose of WWE. Imagine the “Situation” that could occur if WrestleMania alumni Snookie brought the powerful beauty of the entire Divas locker room to Jersey Shore.

Could the excruciating hijinks of Ridiculousness measure up to the absolute hilarity of Santino's YouTube web series Foreign Exchange? Imagine if All World's A.W. and The Prime Time Players took on Michael Cole and Booker T on The Challenge.

Moreover, if the R.W.C. did return, MTV might just start making more videos again. In the '80s, Cyndi Lauper set music television ablaze by putting WWE Hall of Famer Captain Lou Albano into a wall. Imagine if Big Show and his ironclad contract had been setting the curfew. Pink or Katy Perry might think that “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.” However, it would take more than an arm bar to stop "The World’s Largest Father."

Music videos already took a big hit from last year's return of MTV’s resident critics Beavis and Butthead. Wait ‘til they get a load of the Pipebomb microphone of CM Punk, unleashing his special brand of musical tastes on Taylor Swift’s latest release.

No one can say for sure what effect that the revival of Rock 'n' Wrestling would have as a whole. But, whatever happened, there is no denying that it would be entertaining. (Credit: WWE)

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper Recalls Ghostly Encounter With Deceased WWE Wrestler...

WWE Hall of Famer "Rowdy" Roddy Piper recalled his ghostly encounter with a deceased WWE wrestler during the Biography Channel's Saturday night airing of Celebrity Ghost Stories.

Roddy summarized his early days in the professional wrestling industry as a 22-year-old kid with no family. He met another 22-year-old kid, named Adrian Adonis, and they became best friends. He recalled angrily snapping at people, with led to Adrian calming him down and advising him to purchase a house. Adrian believed that a house purchase would give Piper the family life he desperately wanted. He did months later and found happiness.

Roddy, who faced Adrian before 93,173 spectators at WrestleMania III, lamented his death in a car accident. Adrian was killed on July 4, 1988 in Lewisporte, Newfoundland while riding in a minivan with fellow wrestlers William "Mike Kelly" Arko, Victor "Pat Kelly" Arko, and Dave "Wildman" McKigney. Adonis, McKigney, and Pat Kelly were killed when the driver, Mike Kelly, allegedly swerved in order to avoid hitting a moose and, blinded by the setting sun, inadvertedly drove into a lake. Mike Kelly survived, albeit with severe leg injuries.

Roddy said his daughter Ariel would later wake up in the middle of the night and scream because she saw a man in her bedroom. His son would see shadows and hear noises in an inexplicable manner.

One day when Roddy arrived home from a long road trip, his son Colt came running out of the residence screaming that there is a man inside. He storms inside, ready to confront the intruder when he notices that the logs from the fireplace had tumbled out and caught the carpet on fire. As he scrambled to extinguish the fire, he encountered the ghost of Adrian Adonis.

Adrian said "Hey Roddy" and then disappeared. Roddy stood still for a long time since he didn't want to leave the room. He became emotional while recalling this moment.

Roddy believes Adrian is looking out for him and his family in the house that he was encouraged to purchase. He says Adrian is his brother and that he would have never believed in ghosts had it not been for that encounter. (Wrestling Inc)

John Cena grants his 300th wish with Make-A-Wish...

When he’s not in the ring, John Cena has dedicated much of his free time to putting smiles on the faces of the WWE Universe, including kids from Make-A-Wish. The Superstar achieved an awe-inspiring milestone this week, granting his 300th wish to Jonathan Littman of Make-A-Wish. (PHOTOS)

“I thank Make-A Wish for making me such a part of the charity,” Cena told “It’s an honor to be requested that many times!”

Cena met Littman, 7, of Hop Bottom, Pa., Monday before Raw SuperShow, along with Jonathan’s parents, Charlie and Ruth.

“It was awesome!” Jonathan said about meeting his favorite WWE Superstar.

Then, Wednesday morning, the leader of the Cenation surprised the youngster on ABC’s “Good Morning America," since Jonathan’s wish is to meet Cena and also become a television star.

While Jonathan was interviewed by Sam Champion and Josh Elliot, Cena made his way through the crowd gathered in New York City’s Times Square to hang out with him once again.

The Cenation leader didn't come empty-handed. Cena asked the youngster to join him as his special guest in St. Louis on July 23 for Monday Night Raw's historic 1,000th episode. Jonathan happily accepted the invitation, then presented Cena with a handmade gift of his own - a star with a note on the back from him and his parents, thanking him for all the work he does.

"Because of your positive attitude and example, Jonny never gives up," it read. "Thank you, John Cena. You are one of Jonny's special stars."

The day didn't end when the cameras went off. Cena spent time after the show talking with Jonathan about everything going on in WWE. Jonathan also got a chance to do something he forgot on Monday, getting the former WWE Champion to sign his blue autograph book.

Jonathan's appearance on "Good Morning America" will also get him a reward he's very excited about: his Cub Scouts media badge.

Still, at the end of his time with the WWE Superstar, he was a little sad. Jonathan's mood picked up when he was reminded that he'd be seeing Cena again in just a few weeks for Raw 1,000.

Eight years and 300 wishes later, Cena says meeting each and every child with a life-threatening medical condition through the Make-A-Wish is a special event.

“It felt very good to accomplish the milestone of 300 wishes,” he explained. “In the same realm of Raw hitting its 1,000th episode, it truly is just a foundation. Today was a fantastic day, but no greater or less important than any other wish I’ve been able to be a part of.”

Cena granted his milestone 200th Wish in December 2010 – an achievement six years in the making. In 2009, Cena received the foundation's Chris Greicius Celebrity Award for his dedication to granting wishes. He also serves on Make-A-Wish's Wish Ambassador Council and assists in expanding wish-granting outreach across the United States. Overall, WWE has granted close to 4,000 wishes with Make-A-Wish in more than 25 years.

“That’s what’s special about what we do here in WWE. We offer excitement, we offer entertainment. We offer a positive atmosphere. To an everyday member of the WWE Universe, that is special when you’re a kid or a family that’s up against it,” Cena said.

“You can’t underestimate the power of positive thinking. It’s something as simple as that that maybe could get someone through a day.”

Wrestling companies square off in Nashville, USA court...

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Lawyers for World Wrestling Entertainment have told a Nashville judge the company has not and will not use confidential information from rival Total Nonstop Action Wrestling.

The pledge came during a hearing last week over a lawsuit TNA filed last month against pro wrestling giant - WWE, claiming WWE had obtained secret contract details in an attempt to poach TNA's wrestlers.

Attorneys for WWE told Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle that the company has not contacted any of TNA's contracted personnel. The attorneys also said WWE has returned the only copies of the confidential information to TNA.

Lyle dissolved a May 24 temporary restraining order against WWE that had prohibited it from using the information to solicit TNA wrestlers, but she made no ruling on the merits of the case. Another hearing will be July 12.

TNA, based in Nashville, claimed in the suit that WWE apparently had already tried to hire away veteran wrestler Ric Flair. According to the court record, WWE lawyers said the company "has no intention of doing so."

TNA alleged that one of its former employees, Brian Wittenstein, went to work for WWE and provided his new employer with contract details. WWE said he was fired when he gave them the information.

A TNA suit against Wittenstein is still pending.

Jerry McDevitt, an attorney for Connecticut-based WWE, said Tuesday the company will file clarifying details with the court. He said the latest order "speaks for itself."

Dixie Carter, president of TNA, said in a statement Tuesday that the company "will vigorously protect TNA and its brand from damage at the hands of any and all sources, no matter who is involved." TNA was founded by wrestler Jeff Jarrett.

WWE Legal Letter To TNA Legal Counsel...

WWE Attorney Jerry McDevitt recently sent a letter to TNA legal counsel Erika Blonquist. The letter was filed with the court last week and can be read below:

First, and as I advised you orally on the phone during our recent conference call, WWE has not solicited Ric Flair to leave TNA and enter into a contract with WWE. WWE has made no offer to Flair and has no intention of doing so.

Second, as I also advised you, WWE has not solicited any other current TNA talent to repudiate their contracts and enter into a contract with WWE. WWE has no interest in current TNA talent.

The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. UK To Air On FX...

TUF: Australia vs. UK broadcasts on FX in Australia this fall

"The Ultimate Fighter: Australia vs. U.K." will air on FX in Australia in the fall as the latest installment of the reality series from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

UFC officials announced the news yesterday.

Tryouts for the upcoming season of "TUF" are currently underway, featuring fighters from both Australia and England. The coaches for the season have not yet been named, though an official announcement is expected soon.

"We're excited to be part of the FX family in Australia," UFC managing director for international development Marshall Zelaznik stated. "When the first series of 'The Ulimate Fighter' debuted in the United States seven years ago, it brought in millions of new fans who tuned in each and every week to watch their favorite fighters. I have no doubt that 'The Smashes' will do the same in Australia."

"The Smashes" is the title given to this season, referencing a cricket rivalry ("The Ashes") between the two countries.

While the season will air in Australia, no plans have been announced for those hoping to view in the U.S. Fans could watch "The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil" online earlier this year as it was taping in Brazil, but the season did not broadcast on national television until FUEL TV began airing episodes just recently.

Happy that you stopped by our site and encourage you to tell friends about it. Our Twitter account is growing rapidly and we are at over 450,000 followers @JRsBBQ and I personally invite you to join us. WWEShop has restocked their JR's inventory at this link Random thoughts about to be served....

The Monday Night Raw from Nassau Coliseum was a hit in the TV ratings. The HHH/Heyman business along with the Cena/Big Johnny content at the end of the night were big winners.

As a fan, I thought the segment involving 'The Game' and Paul Heyman was the most compelling thing on Raw.

Heyman is a natural born antagonist and when he speaks he isn't 'acting' but simply being himself. I've personally been in too many non televised arguments with Paul to know of what I speak. Heyman has 'it' and always has plus it's obvious that the native New Yorker hasn't lost a step in his self imposed, long sabbatical from the biz over the past several years.

Paul Heyman is the best, antagonist, promo talent in WWE hands down.

A few weeks ago when HHH had his physical encounter with Brock Lesnar, I 'felt' that any bout between the two would be special. Specifically after the 'Cerebral Assassin' (Great handle...wonder where that came from?) fired up on Lesnar for a brief but impactful interlude of hammering right hands. That exchange struck a chord with me and flipped the switch for my motor to engage.

IF Lesnar vs. HHH happens at Summerslam, and I hope that it will, it will be a stellar attraction that will be fresh and not too likely to ever happen again. The bell to bell of this potential main event really has my interest and I'm intrigued to see how this matter plays out between now and August 19.

I'm hoping that WWE uses some of the classic moments of Money in the Bank to help promote the PPV that will be held in July in Phoenix. There are so many great moments in MITB that can be utilized to help sell the PPV. MITB has been a solid concept and really has been a star launcher to a large sense over the years.

Love how some in main stream sports love to knock the genre of sports entertainment yet shows like ESPN's 'First Take' is nothing more than an elongated, promo segment between a villain manager, Skip Bayless, and his 'arch rival,' Stephen A Smith. The role of Mean Gene is played by Jay Crawford. Don't take this as a diss of the show as I'm a regular viewer but main stream sports entities generally do all they can to distance themselves from 'pro wrestling' even though they use regularly elements from the business in this programming.

When I got the Atlanta Falcons gig in 1992 the local media had an outcry especially some columnists in the newspaper. How could a major, sports franchise hire, of all people, a WRESTLING GUY to be a part of their broadcast team?

Another prime example of prejudicial, elitist horse manure from those that look down upon my profession because of what? That it's show business with an athletic backdrop?

I'm a broadcaster and feel supremely confident, perhaps defiant, that I can broadcast any sport with ample time to prepare so that the specifics of the sport become second nature and I can allow my instincts and 'feel of the game' influence how I handle the presentation.

Back to RAW, it was another stellar night for the veteran Kane who has seemingly been reborn over the past several weeks with his physical involvement with WWE Champion CM Punk and Daniel Bryan notwithstanding the big Red Machine's soap opera entanglement with the controversial Diva A.J.

Kane's physical performances have been outstanding as it appears that Punk and Bryan bring out the best in the big man who has recently demonstrated amazing athleticism for a 300+ pounder.

Kane's on going relationship with A.J. has been an intriguing element on Raw that has my interest.

I'm still of the mindset that A.J. has developed a main event level persona in one of WWE's better creative presentations in quite some time.

Obviously, steps are being taken to make the tag team scene in WWE more meaningful but that still won't be good enough for some keyboard warriors who will continue to squeal ala Ned Beatty in 'Deliverance' or the proverbial pig stuck under a gate. It will take time to rebuild something with little, current equity but I'm of the mindset that it can and will be done but that it will not happen over night.

Before I forget, I made some guy food a few nights ago ala beans akin to what was consumed around the camp fire on the cult, film classic 'Blazing Saddles.' I promised the recipe so here it is:

1 can of pork 'n beans drained..put drained beans in a sauce pan on low heat...add JR's All Purpose Seasoning to taste..add chopped sweet or purple onion to taste..add squirt of honey..add JR's Original BBQ Sauce and Chipotle Ketchup as in a drizzle of each..add chopped bell pepper of your choice equal to the amount of onion that you use. Allow to simmer until done but it's better if there is still a little 'crunch' to the onion and bell peppers. It's a quick, easy, inexpensive and healthy dish that's a great tag team partner with grilled main eventers.

Great to hear the feedback from many fans who have never heard the late, Gordon Solie's work to any extent and who have heard him on the WWE Home video release 'Best of Clash of the Champions.' Working with my broadcasting idol on the Flair-Funk I Quit Match was a bucket list thing for me but discerning fans need to remember that it was during the later stages of Gordon's career and that he was doing color and not play by play which does make a difference as it relates to timing, etc. As good as Gordon Solie was that infamous night, his earlier work was that of legend and established that a pro wrestling announcer didn't have to be an over the top baffoon to get the job done. Gordon took his work seriously and treated the business as were a legit sport even though the genre has always been about entertainment featuring amazing athletes.

Mike Tyson being a playable character in WWE13 is a significant development for THQ and WWE. Iron Mike's involvement in the video game should be an outstanding, new, unique feature as the Attitude Era is represented strongly on this upcoming game that I assume will be released this fall perhaps in October.

Just asking but could the new RAW/Smackdown GM be announced at the premier of the weekly three hour Monday Night Raws, episode 1000, in St. Louis on July 23? This isn't a 'spoiler' even though some knuckleheads will think it's such but merely a question. Doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Antonio Cromartie, professional NFL player w/ the New York Jets and reproducer extraordinaire, has many children (12??) and baby mama. Many as in he could be consider the 'Father of our Country' many. Soucrces say that Cro has so many kids that it takes him three days to celebrate Dad's Day. Funniest segment on a past HBO 'Hard Knocks' one of my favorite TV shows, was when Cromartie was naming his children and their ages.

My @okctunder are gravely ill in their quest to win a NBA Title this year as they are down 3 games to 1 against the nWo like Miami Heat. I'd love for OKC to get one win in Miami to bring the series back to Oklahoma for the final two games to add some drama to the NBA Championship and give the local favorites a chance to make Sooner State history. I know the odds are long but as long as there is time on the clock, so to speak, I'm not abandoning my team.

Our potential business relationship with @americansoda in the UK is evolving and we may have some positive news on that matter soon as it relates to them distributing JR's products in that part of the world. Stay tuned over the next 4-6 weeks.

Burger tips for the grill or 80/20 blend of ground beef generally works best as it relates to the meat but that 's your call. I never buy hamburger patties pre made. I always buy bulk meat and make my own patties. Season to taste with JR's All Purpose Seasoning, add a little JR's BBQ Sauce, a few drops of your favorite liquid smoke (I generally use hickory or mesquite) and you can even add finely chopped onion if you choose to blend together to comprise a great burger pattie. If you can, let them sit in the 'fridge, covered, overnight or for as long as you are able IE make the burgers in the morning and grill them in the afternoon. Allowing the burgers to sit and marinate before grilling makes a HUGE difference. Grill over medium heat as to not overcook or cause flames. Sometimes I also add little pieces of cheese to the patties to cook inside them. Grilling is a great hobby and don't be afraid to experiment but always pay attention to what you're doing and don't constantly open your grill or flip your burgers numerous times. I generally turn mine once or twice at the very most.

JR's products are NOT available in any stores except Norman, Oklahoma Homeland stores and unfortunately we do not expect to be in retail stores any time soon. WWEShop has many packages featuring our products, some with personally signed swag, available online at

Sad that some fans feel that any wrestling TV show can essentially solve all their ills simply by going to a TV14 rating and bringing back "blood." If these are young fans thinking this asinine theory, it makes one sort of wonder about the future.

Be Well everyone and come back to see us soon.
